Become a Computer Science Teacher-Professional Learning Workshops

Updated: Apr 9, 2019

Hello!

Did you know that there are Code.org professional learning workshops for teachers here in Utah? Applications are currently open for the 2019-20 Professional Learning Program for middle and high school teachers.

Here in Utah, there are over 4,827 open computing jobs. However, last year only 376 students took the AP Computer Science exam. Looking beyond jobs in tech, computer science opens up more opportunities than any other discipline and ensures students are well prepared for the future, no matter what field they pursue. All students deserve the opportunity to learn and it can start in your school — with you!

Designed to support middle and high school teachers before and during their first year teaching Computer Science Discoveries or Computer Science Principles, the Code.org Professional Learning Program begins with a five-day, in-person summer workshop followed by four additional sessions throughout the year. Best of all? No previous experience teaching computer science is needed.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We look forward to reviewing your application and to seeing you at a Code.org workshop soon!

The 5-day summer workshops will be held Monday, June 24th - Friday, June 28th at Dell EMC in Draper. Additional academic year workshops will be held during the following school year.

We have full scholarships available for all Utah teachers with a successful application! That means you can attend this $1,200 professional learning program at no cost to your school thanks to our generous industry partners: Hill Air Force Base and Dell EMC.

Your scholarship covers your teaching materials, all days of professional development, and your meals during workshops. The curriculum, online student learning platform, and year round support are available to your school at no charge.

Elementary School Teachers

We welcome elementary school teachers to sign up year-round for our no-cost, high-quality one-day professional development workshops for Computer Science Fundamentals courses from an experienced computer science facilitator.

Thank you for your hard work to prepare students for the future. As America’s educators, you are doing the most important job in this country. We’re here to support you in expanding access to computer science in your school.

Signed,

Hadi Partovi and Erin from Utah STEM Action Center
